Hi Linea community!
I’ve been wondering for a while why Linea doesn’t have its own native token yet. We’ve seen that many Layer 2 solutions based on Ethereum, like Arbitrum, Optimism, and others, have already launched or plan to launch their tokens to incentivize users and support ecosystem growth.
Linea focuses on creating a scalable infrastructure for Ethereum using zk-Rollups, which is an excellent solution in itself. However, the absence of a token raises a few questions:
- Does the lack of a token impact user adoption? Many projects use tokens to drive activity, decentralize governance, and attract developers.
- What are your plans regarding a potential token? Has there been any discussion about this, or is the decision to avoid launching a token intentional for specific reasons?
- Could a token help decentralize and fund the Linea ecosystem? This is an important point for any L2 solution aiming to become a leader in the space.
I’m curious to hear from both the team and the community. Maybe a token isn’t necessary, and focusing solely on protocol development is the right approach. Or could the launch of a token provide Linea with additional momentum for growth?
Looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions!
