I very like this ecosystem. I’ve been in at the beginning and I see huge progress so keep going!

The proposals outlined in this post are a solid step toward making Linea a fully decentralized L2 chain. The use of QBFT consensus for L2-finality and the innovative approach of an on-chain auction for block proposers are exciting ideas. It’s also reassuring that accountability measures like slashing Byzantine nodes are in place to maintain trust in the system. I’m curious to see how the sealed bid auction for block proposers will evolve and what impact it will have on overall decentralization and MEV concerns.

This blog post outlines the proposals for making Linea, a Layer 2 chain, fully decentralized. The key proposals include decentralizing block validation using a distributed Byzantine agreement protocol, implementing a QBFT consensus protocol, and introducing an auction mechanism for selecting block proposers. Additionally, the post discusses the finalization of Linea’s blocks on L1, reward allocation, and measures to ensure liveness and Sybil resistance. Overall, these proposals aim to increase the decentralization and security of the Linea network.

Hi, for standard usages, L2 finality is what you need.

L1-finality would be required only if you need more economic guarantees than those provided by the L2 validator set, for instance if you want to make a huge cross-chain transaction.
If L1 finalization fails, then it means there many malicious nodes that did collude to make this happen. The protocol is designed so that they can be identified and their stake will be burned, making this very costly for them.

With respect to the L2 blocks that turned out to be invalid, they will be reverted.

I sceptikal, but I hope it will be done.

I understand. Thank you. But in general the difference is only in the time “how long do I have to wait”? If I wait for finalization in L1 - then in general what is the average waiting time?

Very interesting proposal

Its probably first time when i read whole message about a bit hard but also interesting technical thing about decentralization, blockchain and ecosystem! Big thanks for that! Im newbie but learning

As of now, it takes about half a day for a block to be L1-finalized.
